How To Recreate Karlie And Ashley’s Perfect Fashion Week Buns

The secret to the perfect bun? Just ask Luke, who has been in Paris working with supermodels Karlie Kloss and Ashley Graham on their hair for the Couture shows. Both women have showcased different takes on the style, which works just as well day to day as it does for events, and even weddings.

“We created a lower bun on Karlie, while Ashley’s sat a bit higher,” Luke explains. “The position of the bun gives a slightly different character to the overall style – the higher it is, the girlier it feels, while lower takes on the look feel more gamine and boyish.” He juxtaposed Karlie’s low bun with a girly ribbon, which gave a chic, French twist: “If we had put the bun too high, the addition of a bow would have felt too fussy.”

How to recreate it? According to Luke, the key lies in the texture of the hair – he created a dry, natural finish that wasn’t weighed down with product. “I deliberately wanted the hair to feel natural and easy, so didn’t go near any gels or heavy product,” he says. “I prepped the hair with Almost Everything Cream to create a sheen, then applied Zhoosh after I’d rough dried it to give a bit more bite, hold and lived-in texture.”

Then, he pulled the hair into a ponytail and backcombed at the top, splitting the hair into two pieces and then wrapped both sections of hair on top of each other, so they almost felt like a bow. After that, he secured. The result is cool girl hair that doesn’t feel too frilly, but is just the right amount of feminine. Whether you’re a bride-to-be or simply want a great hairstyle for an event, why not give it a try?
