How To Protect Your Hair From The Sun
You probably already know that it’s essential to wear SPF on your skin every day, but did you know that protecting your hair from the sun is also important? The UVA and UVB rays that the sun emits can damage the hair cuticle, which subsequently impacts the rest of the hair.
Sun-damaged hair can look and feel dry, brittle, a little lacklustre and frizzy, plus if you’re someone who dyes their hair, you might also notice unwanted changes to your hair colour. So, how to protect the hair and the scalp beneath it? Here are our top tips:
Use UV-protecting formulas
Seek out haircare formulas that contain UV protection – not only are these brilliant for the hair, but the scalp too. Mists are a great option as they are easy to apply and you can use them all over, but we also love hair masks and other nourishing formulas that have the added benefit of SPF inside.
Wear a hat
If you’re not someone who naturally stays out of the sun, then make sure you wear a hat while you’re in it. This is the best way to protect scalp and strands – not to mention it’s also great at protecting the face from sun damage too.
Try a protective hairstyle
Braids are an excellent way to keep hair under control and protected from external aggressors, including the sun, chlorine and sea salt. Plus they look good too.
Aim to hydrate
As well as protecting hair from the sun, make sure you’re nourishing it with hydrating formulas to offset any potential damage caused. Creams and masks help fortify the hair, while also leaving it shiny and healthy – our Almost Everything Cream is a must-try.
