One of the biggest hair conundrums we all face is how to get the hairstyles we’ve created at home hold beyond the first hour. While some people are blessed with hair that needs little assistance in this department, others require a little extra help when it comes to staying power. As party season rolls in, here we share some of our top tips on how to create hairstyles that last.

Choose a targeted shampoo

If you’re washing your hair before you style it, make sure you’re using formulas that cater to your hair type. I.e. if you have curly hair, use a curl range, or if you have fine hair, try volumising formulas. Not only will they help create excellent hair health, but they should also help you style your hair effectively. If you’re not wedded to the idea of washing your hair before you style it, try not to – achieving optimal staying power is actually much easier when the hair is not squeaky clean.

 

Apply a good texturising formula

Try our Zhoosh, which is a dry foam that delivers extra grit and hold, helping any style you create stay put. You can apply it on damp or dry hair and it’s also great when used to revive the style on days two and three. A no brainer, you might say.

 

Make sure your hair is fully dry before starting 

It might sound obvious, but so much of the time we try and style our hair using tongs or straighteners before we’ve actually properly dried the hair first – this means that any shape you create falls out quickly. Make sure hair is properly dry before embarking on any styling – our Great Hairdryer is super lightweight and quick, meaning that even the longest hair dries speedily.

 

Use hot and cold

Whether curls, waves or kicked ends, the best way to achieve long-lasting shape is by playing with hot and cold. Define the shape using heat – with tongs, our Wavemaker or a hair dryer – then let it cool in that shape. So, if it’s a curl you’ve just tonged, let it stay in its curled form as much as possible until it has cooled. Then, you can gently loosen the curl with your fingers later on.
